Making
difficult Eldercare decisions
Situation: An elderly
mother and her 45-year old son came to us to discuss the mother’s
desire to move to a retirement community. They sought out counsel
on finding the right place for her as well as to provide an orderly
transfer of assets to her son and grandson.
Actions: We discussed the
family’s needs and visited a number of retirement communities
with the mother. We helped them to find the right place and to
implement a strategy to finance her move. We also made recommendations
about the management of a family Trust and rental property within
the Trust. We identified strategies so that she could provide funding
for her grandson’s education. We re-allocated and continue
to monitor the investments in her Grantor Trust and in the family
Trust.
Result: Her move to
the retirement community was a very positive experience. The
family was grateful for our help in facilitating the decision
and the move.
